German Colors + Adjectives (Farben und Adjektive)

Colors are adjectives. That means they usually describe nouns: ein rotes Auto, eine blaue Tasche. In German, adjectives often take endings — but you can start with the most common forms and learn the patterns step by step.

Common Colors

grüngreenein grüner Apfel
gelbyelloweine gelbe Tasche

Adjective Endings (Beginner Shortcut)

You don’t need every rule on day one. Start with these three extremely common patterns:

  • das Auto → das rote Auto
  • ein Auto → ein rotes Auto
  • die Tasche → die blaue Tasche

Over time you’ll learn why the endings change, but these examples already let you speak correctly in many situations.
