Präpositionen (Prepositions)

Präpositionen sind kleine Wörter (an, in, zu), die normalerweise vor einem Nomen stehen (manchmal auch vor einem Verb im Gerundium). Selbst fortgeschrittene Englischlerner haben oft Probleme mit den Präpositionen, weil man sie nicht 1:1 übersetzen kann. So gibt es z. B. für die deutsche Präposition „am“ je nach Situation verschiedene Übersetzungen – hier nur einige Beispiele.

Beispiele:: am Montag – on Monday; am Wochenende – at the weekend; am Morgen – in the morning

Meist gibt es keine Regel dafür, wann welche Präposition genommen wird. Da hilft nur, in einem Wörterbuch nachzuschlagen, viel auf Englisch zu lesen (Literatur) und wichtige Wendungen mit Präpositionen auswendig zu lernen (Lerntipps). In der folgenden Tabelle findest du einige Regeln für häufig verwendete und leicht zu verwechselnde Präpositionen:
